Day 100: The amazing views of Northern California
Sadly we don’t get to see much of these views. We are missing them all, due to smog.
I had a wonderful first 3 miles today. I started on time. I was not in pain. We passed the 1600 mile marker. There was a deer on the trail. The chipmunks are soo cute.
The rest of the day I got more and more pain in my foot. It s*#$@¥cked. For the first time on the trail I cried. For the first time on the trail I took painkillers. It helped a little.
I am wondering what the point is being out here at this point. I am in pain. There is no pretty views. There is no healthy air to breath (it smells more and more like fire). Well, never quit on a bad day. And also, I will not let California defeat me. I am so close to Oregon. It probably won’t change the trail much, but it will be a huge mental boost when we get there.
I took it easy and arrived late at camp. I made noodles with some summer sausage and red bell pepper. Yesterday I had summer sausage and zukini in my mac and cheese. Fresh stuff from town, a little heavy, but healthy.
Miles hiked: 21.8 miles
Tentsite (1599.4) – Marble Valley Cabin (1621.2)
Weather: I honestly don’t really know if it was sunny or cloudy. It was smoggy. Temperatures were nice, a bit chilly even on breaks.
